Chapter 9

-Present time-

“Hay grabe! Nakakakilig naman!”

“Nay, anong nakakakilig dun? Ang ordinaryo kaya.”

“Palibhasa kasi wala kang kasweetan sa katawan. Alex, buti napapagtiisan mo tong asawa mo.”

“Wala ng choice nay.” Alex’s quipped making everyone laughed.

“Hay, ang hirap talaga pag napapagtulungan.”

“Naku anak, dapat mong matutunan na hindi tayo mananalo sa asawa natin.”

“Mukha nga tay.”

Another bout of laughter.

After another lengthy exchange of stories, the Dela Rosa family bid goodbye with a promise of another get-together.

“Maya, sasabay ka ba sa amin?”

Maya looked at Richard.

“Uhmm, tito kung okay lang po bang ako na maghahatid kay Maya?”

“O sige iho, ikaw ng bahala kay Maya. Mauna na kami.”

“Balae, pag-usapan na lang natin kung kelan uli tayo magkita.”

“Sige balae.”

“Nay, balae agad?”

“Naku James, wag ka ng makulit dyan, tara umuwi na tayo.”

Maya kissed Donya Esmeralda and Don Roberto.

“Thank you po tita, tito for the dinner.”

“Ay hija, make sure to come back here ha? And please do practice on calling me mama.”

Maya blushed.

“Ma.”

“What? I’m just saying iho. Dun din naman ang punta nun. Right?”

Ricky smiled and shake his head, knowing full well that Maya is feeling uncomfortable.

“Ma, una na kami.”

“Okay iho, ingat. And dalasan mo ang pagpunta dito.”

“Okay Ma, Pa. we’ll go ahead.”

“Okay son. Ingat sa pagdadrive.”

-inside the car-

“Ricky,okay ka lang?”

Ricky’s shoulders were shaking alarming Maya, only to find out he was shaking with laughter.

“Anong nangyayari sayo?”

Ricky breathes deeply first before speaking so as to control his laughter.

“Sorry sweetheart, natawa lang ako sa reactions nyo ni Emman. I can only imagine. Grabe ka pang magpakipot noon.”

Maya punches Ricky lightly on the shoulder.

“Ewan ko sa’yo, ang torpe mo kasi.”

Ricky took Maya’s hand and kissed it before speaking up.

“Sweetheart, forgive me, but we both know we are not the best of friends. We are literally cats and dogs when we were growing up. Only to realize, well for me, I was annoyed for the fact that you are my best friend’s sister. It was a hard situation for me.”

Maya bit her lower lip to control her ‘kilig’.

“Sweetheart, okay lang na ilabas mo yang kilig mo. Tayong dalawa lang naman.”

Maya hits him again.

“Sweetheart, careful please, I’m driving. Baka matanggal ang kamay ko.”

“Ang OA mo Ricky ha. Matanggal talaga.”

But Maya was caressing his arm though making Ricky smile. When Maya realizes this, she moved farther from Ricky.

“Sweetheart, napakamatampuhin mo. Natutuwa lang naman ako kasi kahit nagagalit ka, you still care.”

Ricky smiled making it hard for Maya’s pretense ‘tampo’.

“Hay naku nakakainis ka sweetheart. Hirap magalit sa’yo pag nagpapacute ka.”

“Hahaha..hindi ako nagpapacute. Gwapo ako.”

“Hahaha, hay naku sweetheart, atin-atin na lang yan ha.”

And the lovers shared a hearty laugh as they traverse home.
