If Only – San Nicolas Adventure 4
In the afternoons, the kids would play any streets game. Today they are playing hide n seek.
Kuya Luke volunteered to be the first ‘it’.
“Pagbilang kong sampu, nakatago na kayo. Isa, dalawa, tatlo…”
Nikki, Abby, Cho and the twins scrambled to find places to hide. Ricky was so amused how the twins joins in more so how his older children gamely play this kind of games. Doris and Sabel helps the twins in finding places to hide, Abby and Cho tag team to find locations as Nikki feels frustrated finding one.
“Nakakatuwa talaga tong mga anak niyo Maya. Lalo na sina Luke at Nikki. Nakikipaglaro talaga sila sa mga nakakabata nilang kapatid.”
“Oo nga po tay eh.” She answers as she looks back at her children working on finding a place to hide as kuya Luke nears the end of his count.
“…siyam, sampu! Ready or not, here I come.”
A shriek was heard from Sky as ate Sabel motions for him to keep quiet. He covers his mouth with his tiny hands. The elders laughing at him. Sunshine was in the Chibugan kitchen with ate Doris. Sky was by the counter. Abby and Cho were in the storeroom. Nikki was at her wit’s end as she was still trying to locate a place to hide then found water storage that were big enough to shield her.
“Nasan na kaya sila? Hmmm.” As Luke walks towards Chibugan, small laughs can be heard.
The elders who were watching were excited in anticipation as well.
“Sino kaya ang una kong makikita.” Luke dramatically slows down his walk as he looks sideways to check.
Maya walks towards Ricky who puts his arm around her and kiss her on the forehead. Maya then places her arms around him as they watch on their children.
Luke located Abby and Cho first, Nikki, Sunshine then Sky. But Mr. Grumpy was not happy.
“I don’t like play anmore.” Hands crossed and brows furrowed.
“Why Sky?” Maya asks.
“I’m not first.” Then he stomped his foot. “I want first. I want count.”
Understanding dawn on them. And the elders started laughing.
“Mommy, I want first.” Mr. Grumpy is now crying and mommy Maya has to appease him.
“Sky, you have to wait for your turn to be the it. Everyone will have their turn, okay?” He looks at his mom, sniffing with brows still furrowed but nods his head. Then he swipes his nose with his arm.
“Ay, kuya Sky! Hahaha. Batang yagit ka na naman.”
“Punasan ko na lang Mrs. Chief.”
“Thank you Sabel.”
The kids continued with their game as the elders prepare some snacks for them.
“Nakakatuwa at nag-eenjoy ang mga bata dito.”
“Oo nga eh manang. Lucky for them, I had no province to go to.” Ricky’s response to Manang Fe.
Manang Fe smiled at her old ward.
“Masaya ako para sa inyo Ricardo. Maganda ang pagpapalaki ninyo ni Maya sa mga bata. Tuluy-tuloy niyo lang.”
“Ricky, gusto mo ng kape o juice? Ikaw po Manang Fe?” Maya sweetly ask her husband and Manang Fe.
“I’ll go for coffee sweetheart. Thank you.”
“Ako na Maya. Sige na, asikasuhin mo na lang ang asawa mo.” Manang Fe smiled at Maya and left them.
Maya fixed coffee for them and sat, watching once again their children eating in one table and playfully bantering with one another.
“Happy sweetheart?” Ricky asks.
Maya made a satisfying look at their kids first before looking at him.
“I couldn’t ask for more.” Maya answered.
Smiled at him and lean on his shoulder. Both sip at their cup of coffee and satisfyingly looked at their children.
